11 years ago, I became the CEO of Casey Research, a leading publisher of investment newsletters. Like me, many of our subscribers where precious metals investors, and we shared the same challenge: How do I safely buy and store precious metals?
For five years, I searched for a way to combine owning physical gold or silver with all the conveniences of a brokerage account.
My goal was to create a liquid market for physical precious metals, where people could buy, sell, and store gold and silver, and take delivery of their coins or bars at any time.
I wanted to offer investment-grade bullion at the best available prices by buying from the largest bullion wholesalers in the world. And I wanted to keep business honest and transparent: no bait-and-switch tactics, no upselling customers to higher-margin collectibles.
None of the bullion dealers I had previously worked with made the cut, and it became clear to me that there was a need waiting to be filled.
But I realized that convenience and competitive pricing would mean nothing if we didn't offer security to our customers. We would need to provide the most secure storage with the safest, private, non-bank vault facilities (Brinks, Loomis, and Malca-Amit). Our customers' assets had to be insured at replacement value (Lloyd's). And all transactions had to be reconciled daily and audited at least twice a year by an independent third party (Veritas).
I found out that Gold Bullion International (GBI) offered a world-class trading and storage platform for large institutional investors. To meet the strict requirements of giants like Bank of America-Merrill Lynch and UBS, GBI had developed a powerful bullion platform that acted as a clearinghouse between the world's largest mints and wholesalers.
